Matthew 22:41-45 & Blog's Motives

~Brandon James Scott Scholl

Mat 22:41 While the Pharisees were still there, Jesus asked them,
Mat 22:42 ”What do you think about the Messiah? Whose family will he come from?” They answered, “He will be a son of King David.”
Mat 22:43 Jesus replied, “How then could the Spirit lead David to call the Messiah his Lord? David said,
Mat 22:44 ’The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right side until I make your enemies into a footstool for you.’
Mat 22:45 If David called the Messiah his Lord, how can the Messiah be a son of King David?”
Mat 22:46 No one was able to give Jesus an answer, and from that day on, no one dared ask him any more questions.

In this passage I believe Jesus is trying to make an interesting point to the pharisees. First, He asks them a simple question, Whose family will the Messiah come from? Because it was prophesied that the Messiah would be from the line of David they replied with that. However, then Christ pushes them to think further. He asks them how that’s possible that David would call the Messiah Lord and it be a decendent of his line. It didn’t make sense at all. That’s when the Pharisees decided to stop talking. That was because they weren’t taking into consideration you’re born into both family lines. In this case it was David’s line and God’s line so to speak.

I think Jesus was challenging the thinking of the Pharisees here. (which He did all the time) See, they were stuck on seeing things from the worldy perspective. They saw in the natural and didn’t really know as much as they sure thought they did when it came to this subject. Christ was trying to show them how they were wrong and change their thinking. In other words, He was making them think.

Here’s something to consider. Royalynne and I talk to people, write articles, and do actions that challenge people’s thinking. I’m not saying that we’re some kind of Messiah so please don’t take it that way in the slightest.

However, we challenge people’s thinking on everything that we talk and write about. People believe things because they they think it’s right. However, when they get deeper into the root of it the reason is something along the lines of because of how long it’s been in their family or something like that. Our goal is to get people to think about things for themselves and check what the bible says when someone claims something. Whether it’s their pastor, priest, friend, teacher, whatever they need to check the source and confirm what they’re being told is true in context. Something to think about.
